"Its getting hard for me...", she texted.
"What..what are you talking about?", he texted back.
"This, what ever we are doing?".
"Don't say you want to jeopardize our relationship!".
She is silent now.
"Is it me?".
"No,I don't know actually...".
"I want something, at least tell me why is it tough for you to be with me..."
"Its not you, its me."
"I don't understand..."
"I mean..I don't feel anything."
"You won't understand, you've changed or maybe I have."
"But it has been two months why now?"
"I gave it a try, I was testing myself, now I feel I don't have feelings..."
"So everything we did in these two months are nothing?"
"Not nothing, they have taught me, you were a gift."
"Then why don't you want it now?"
"I can't explain, and even if I would you won't understand..."
"Then, its ended right?"
"You'll get a better girl, you deserve better."
"I don't want better, I want nothing, just tell me, you want to end it, end "us"?"
After 10 minutes,
"Just okay? Don't you want to say something? Say something, scold me, taunt me!"
After 30 minutes
"I am sorry, if I had hurt you. I don't want that."
After 45 minutes
"At least reply! Please, say something, anything, don't be numb, please talk to me!"
Her doorbell rang. She opened the door and it was like she had saw a ghost.
"What! Its like you haven't seen me in years" he said.
She is still in shock.
"But..but..phone..we.." She tried to speak.
"Yes, you want a breakup, I know"
He went in and placed the bottle of wine.
He held her hand and walked to the table. After pouring some wine, he said,
"We started like this. So we have to end it too in the same way.".
He raised the glass and smiled.
She wanted to say something but he put a finger on her lip.
"Its your choice and I accept it. I know things don't work out, sometimes but love, love does. I know it has been only two months and if you think it isn't working I won't force it. We fell in love together and celebrated it, now if we are ending it I want to celebrate it too. You know why? Cause I want you to remember me like this only. As loving boyfriend who supported you even in breakup.", he grinned.
She was slowly sipping through the glass.
She couldn't believe it. He's taking it so well. It was silence now. He completed his glass and stood up.
"I should go now..."
She nodded. She had no words.
After walking to the door he turned back.
"Wait, I forgot something"
Before she could complete it he came close to her.
She could feel his weeping heart, but a big smile on his face. He leaned forward. She closed her eyes. An old habit. He kissed her forehead.
"Good bye, shona" the words wooed her ears.
She wanted to open her eyes. But it was so consuming that she couldn't. But when she did, it was too late, he had reached up to the door.
In a second, everything flashed before her, his gifts, his kisses, those late night talks, those sneak meets, that proposal.
"Wait, I want my boyfriend to take me with him too, do you mind?"
He sneaked through the door, smiling, but with tears in his eyes.
She was crying too.
Just an hour ago, she was on the verge to loose it. But now she knows she never will. He is there to save it, everytime!
